You will want to head to the hardware store for 1 inch hard foam insulation and cut it to 12 5/8" by 9 3/4" The rigid foam makes a stable insert that holds your 2D element securely.
Your 2D background layout for this size piece should be approximately 15 by 18 before wet felting.
Sara primed her cradled panel edges with Gesso and painted with acrylics.
