Most of my sculptures have armatures. The armatures give them
flexibility, an accurate skeleton, the ease of being able to wrap wool
quickly to begin building shape, and a stable "bone" to keep limbs
skinny. The key is finding the right wire for the job...
We currently offer 2 gauges: 12 and 14
12
gauge wire is a nice weight for sculptures over 10". I use it for
reindeer, camels, and any other larger pieces. You will get a 20ft
coil.
14 gauge wire is perfect for animals in the 6-10" long
range. 14 is my most used wire; ponies, donkeys, goats, sheep, etc.
This 30ft coil of wire will make approximately 10-12 animals.
I like to wrap aluminum wire armatures with pipe cleaners to give the wool something to grab.
